Under 10s

Our u10 girls travelled to their long awaited first game of the season to Ballycomoyle on a Wednesday evening July 1st.  With loads of players away on holidays both teams struggled to field teams. However it was The Downs girls that were superior from the onset. They displayed great skill and determination throughout with some very impressive scores and some staunch defending by the back line. The final score was 17 - 4 to The Downs.  Well done to Ellie Murtagh in Goals, Katie Tansey and Niamh Roe in backs. Emma Dagg, Aishling Harte and Katie Nea in mid field and forwards Ella Murtagh and Aoife Murphy, your coaches Sharon, Mark, Shauna, Niamh and Emma are very proud of your display for your first trip out. Well done!

Junior Championship  The Downs 3:7                         Athlone 2:2

Panel: Grace Raleigh, Caoimhe Carthy, Amy Dagg, Emma Murtagh, Claire Crowley, Roisin Scally, Rebecca Kelly, Aoife Rowan, Niamh Nolan, Aisling Egerton, Niamh Rowan, Britney McNamee, Mary Lynam, Bernie Corroon, Gillian Ferguson, Amy Kenny, Sarah McGuire.

U14 Girls Div 2 League, Match report.

Home to Garrycastle, Tuesday July 7th 2015.

Referee Suzie McKnight

On a wet and wind evening in The Downs our U14 girls Div 2 team were very unfortunate to come out second best in a 13 a side game versus Garrycastle. Ball handling conditions were very tough for both sides and to the girls credit a great game of football was served up by both sides. The first half saw honours even at 3-0 apiece with The Downs goals coming from Amy Gilgan, Ciara Gilhooley & Zara Murtagh  The second half saw Garrycastle score two early goals. The Downs girls were not however fazed by the deficit and chipped away at the lead with points from Ciara Gilhooley (3), Caoimhe Scally & Emma Horan. Despite our the best efforts in creating many opportunities, the equalizing score could not be found and Garrycastle came out on top by 3-5 to 5-0. This was a fabulous effort by both sides on an awful evening’s weather, with an end to end game providing great excitement for parents and supporters in attendance, so well done to all involved.

Training continues on Friday from 7.30-9.00 and attendance is crucial to make the difference in our remaining games in the championship away to Loughnavalley (July 21st) & Caulry (date tbc)
