The Community Call

The Community Call initiative is being coordinated through Westmeath County Council. The Downs GAA Super Valu and Centra have signed up to this initiative To Help The Community. Thanks to all those who have contacted the club to volunteer their services for this initative

The club is currently assisting two households who are restricted with cocooning. Volunteers are also keeping in contact with the elderly ensuring that they safe secure. Well done to all.

Aiden McGuire will coordinate the club volunteers as required. Aiden’s number is 086 2532327. Further details are available on the club website www.thedownsgaa.com

This initiative will augment the clubs current endeavors of keeping an eye out for the elderly and those living alone in our community If anyone in our community needs additional  assistance during this health crisis please contact Tommy Kelly, club secretary on 087 2949714 or any member of the committee. Ag Féachain Siar - 2002

Eighteen years ago The Downs Ladies affiliated an adult ladies team for the first time and participated in the junior football championship that year (see photo below). In their relatively short history the club has annexed three JFC titles and one IFC title along with three JFL titles. At underage level they have won a total fifteen championship at U/12, U/14 and U/16 grades.

This was an enlightened move at the time and since then the ladies club has gone from strength to strength and now has teams affiliated at all grades from under ten to senior level. Great credit must go to the founding committee (listed below) for their foresight and dedication and for placing The Downs LGFC on a sound footing.
