Senior Championship

The lads played Rosemount in the Championship quarter final last Saturday evening. The team played some brilliant football and were fully deserved of the 2-09 to 2-07 win and now progress to face St. Lomans in the semi-final. Ian Martin got another goal to add to his championship tally early on to give the lads a cushion. However, the comfort was soon taken away when our captain Adam Loughlin received his second yellow card. Rosemount struggled to take advantage of the extra man as The Downs continued to pull away, Luke Loughlin was in suburb form and finished the game with nine points in total. Conor Coughlan added a second major just before the interval to give a five point lead. Rosemount to their credit never gave up and scored two second half goals and were pushing hard in the closing stages, but The Downs held on to win by two. Thanks to all who came out to support the lads.

Junior Championship

Our Junior team were out for the fifth game in under two weeks last Friday when we played C.F.C.W in the quarter final. The lads got off to a slow start and conceded two goals in the opening stages. The Downs then began to get to grips with the game and started to close the gap and only trailed by three at the break. The second half the lads continued to push hard and clawed the deficit back to the minimum on two occasions but could not get the vital score to level the game. Full time 3-09 to1-13. The club are extremely proud of the efforts of the junior team and management this year and it is a great achievement to make the knockout stage for the past two years.
