Division 1

Our Division 1 team had their first competitive outing of the year away to Tang last Saturday evening. Unfortunately, The Downs didn’t play to their best and struggled to get into any rhythm and trialled by 0-08 to 0-04 at the interval. With the wind advantage in the second half we continued to be frustrated by a very organised and determined home side. Tang ran out deserving winners 0-12 to 0-07.

Division 2

The Division 2 lads got their second win in as many matches last Sunday morning in Rochfortbridge. Playing with a strong wind in the first half The Downs held a slender 0-05 to 0-04 lead at the halfway stage. The Downs started the second half in great form scoring 1-02 without reply, the goal coming from debutant Danny McDermott who was introduced only moments earlier. Rochfortbridge dominated much of the possession and territory for the remainder of the game but some determined defending and a high work rate ensured we got the victory. Full time 1-08 to 0-08.

Division 5

We travelled to Ballymore Sunday afternoon with several lads who were now taking part in their second game of the day. The game started in very tough conditions with a strong blustery wind. The main taking point of the half came via Ciaran Nolan when he burst through the home defence to find the net giving The Downs the lead 1-03 to 0-05 at the break. As both teams went in for half time conditions worsened with heavy snow showers falling.  The referee decided the conditions would get the better of this game and was forced to call it off.

Hard luck to our figure dancers who competed in the Leinster Scór Sinsear final last Sunday. Well done to Bunbronsa who will represent Westmeath and Leinster in the All Ireland.

Well done to the Westmeath hurlers on a brilliant win last weekend. A special well done to our club members Darragh, Shane and Niall and to Brendan who is involved in the management team.

A big congratulations to Joe Connaire and the Mullingar Fleadh committee on bringing the Fleadh back to Mullingar for 2020.

We send our sincere sympathy to the families of the following Mrs. Fox, Kinnegad, John Reid, Tubberclair, Bernie Toomey, Ballymore Eustace, Joe Ward, Clongowney, John Hynes, Milmount. May they Rest in Peace.
