Underage Training

Unfortunately, our underage training had to forfeit to weather last Saturday evening. It will continue as normal next Saturday at 5pm, all new players are welcome.

Division 2

We hosted Ballnacarigy last Saturday evening in the first round of the league. Conditions were difficult for football with a very strong cross field wind. The Downs seemed to adapt to the conditions better in the first half. The defence held strong reducing our opponents to just one point in the opening half, with Ciaran Seery and Niall Nolan to the fore. Our forwards pulled to together some great moves with goals coming from Shane Carroll, Ian Martin and two from Dylan Carroll to give us a commanding 4-05 to 0-01at the break. The scoring slowed in the second half and Ballnacarigy began to gain more of a foothold, however The Downs had given them too much to do and the result was never in doubt. Full Time 4-09 to 0-07.

Division 5

We fielded a very young side last Sunday morning in The Downs for the visit of St. Lomans. It was again terrible conditions for football with but teams struggling to get scores on the board. However it was The Downs who found it the easier often through placed balls from Jack Carroll and Ciaran Nolan and showed some great battling qualities to get over the line on a full time score line of 0-08 to 0-05. Well done to adult football debutants Jack Walsh in goals and Matthew Cunningham at wing forward, the latter contributed with a first half point.

Well done to Luke Loughlin and his Westmeath teammates as they kept their promotion push on target with a win away to Sligo, Luke was instrumental in the victory kicking four points. Well done also to Niall Mitchell and Darragh Egerton who were involved with the Westmeath hurlers over the weekend.

The walkway lights will now be on from dusk to 22:30 daily for all existing and new members, for a safe place to walk over the winter months.
