125 Book Launch

A great evening was had in the clubhouse on Saturday night last as we celebrated the launch of our 125 book and presented medals to our ACFL Div 3 winners of 2018. Very special guest on the night was GAA Ard Stiúrthóir Tom Ryan who was joined by Geraldine Giles, Chair of Westmeath Ladies GAA and Frank Mescall, Vice Chair Westmeath GAA along with various other past and present County Board officials. MC for the night was our own former chair Patrick Doherty who as always performed flawlessly on the mike. It was a wonderful evening of nostalgia as all present reflected on the first 125 years of our club. Reluctant stars of the show were the 2 authors of our 122 page book, Aiden McGuire and Gerry Buckley. We salute their hard work and endeavour in getting this wonderful publication across the line in this our 125th year. There are over 60 people thanked in the acknowledgements section at the back of the book which provides an idea of the painstaking work involved so to Gerry, Aiden and all – go raibh mile maith agaibh go leir. Photos from the night can be viewed at our Facebook page. At just €20, this limited edition book will be available to purchase later this week in Flynns, Just Books, Millie Walsh’s, Rochfort's, Fagan's and A & J Newsagents Coralstown. We will also have an online option including delivery worldwide very soon – keep an eye on website.

Sympathy

We extend sincere sympathy to the Gavin family on the passing of Paddy late of Oaklawns, Mullingar and the Longworth family on the passing of Rose, late of Killare, Ballinea. May they rest in peace.

Ladies Football

Congratulations to our minors which defeated Milltown tonight in an epic county final played in Kevin Molloy Park. Trailing by 2 at the break 2-7 to 1-8, the girls in black and amber were magnificent in the second half. Despite trailing by 7 entering the final quarter, the girls saved the best wine until last and went on to record a 3-13 to 3-12 win over a gallant and most impressive Milltown side.

Full report next week.
