Senior Championship

Our senior lads recorded an impressive 3-12 to 0-12 win over Athlone in the championship last Saturday evening in Cusack Park. The Downs started somewhat slowly with Athlone having the first four attacks but it wasn’t long before The Downs got things moving and with points from Luke Loughlin followed by a goal from Adam we soon settled into a commanding lead. Athlone were struggling with the pace of The Downs attack and this was shown when Phillip Doherty got up the field to find himself scoring The Downs second goal, to give a comfortable 2-07 to 0-06 lead at the break. In the second half the lads just kept the scoreboard ticking over to keep Athlone at arms lent and a clever goal from Luke Loughlin in the closing seconds left a 3-12 to 0-12 score line at full time. The lads now face Tyrellspass this coming Saturday at 6pm in TEG Cusack Park with a chance of making it direct to the semi finals.

Junior Championship

The Downs junior team are keeping their impressive run going in this year’s championship. The lads overcame a youthful Rosemount side last Tuesday evening in Lakepoint. The Downs started the game with well and had three goals on the score sheet within the first fifteen minutes, courtesy of Sean Loughlin and the unlikely source of Cian Carty who got up the field on multiple occasions from corner back to score two goals. The Downs were unlucky not to further the goals tally in the first period as both Ciaran Nolan and Shane Carroll hit the frame of the goal. The Downs began to dominate the middle third with Ian Martin, Donal Coughlan and Declan Lynam getting plenty of touches. At half time we held a well deserved lead of 3-06 to 0-05. The second half the intensity somewhat dipped as the lads ensured Rosemount had no way back into the contest and the game fished 3-12 to 1-09. The Lads face St. Pauls this Sunday in Lakepoint Park at 1:30pm in the Quarter final.

U17 Championship

Well done to the U17 lads who recorded a 4-14 to 3-11 win over Shandonagh last Wednesday evening. The lads now face Caulry in the quarter final this Sunday at 11:30am in The Downs.

U14

Hard luck to the U14 team who lost the shield final, in extra time last Saturday. It was a tough defeat to take given how well the lads performed.

Well done to the U10 team who won the Killucan tournament last Saturday.
