Senior Championship

The Downs started their senior championship last Sunday evening against St. Lomans. Our lads were slow to start and struggled to get any period of long procession in the first half and went in trailing 0-12 to 0-06. The Start of the second half The Downs began to find their way, PJ Maguire, Joe Moran and Philip Doherty began to establish a foothold around the middle third with Luke Loughlin and Luke Folan getting more opportunities in front of goal. Unfortualy two quick fire goal from St. Lomans mid way through the first half put the game beyond a battling Downs side. Full Time 3-17 to 0-17.

Junior Championship

Last Tuesday evening The Downs travelled to Shandonagh to take on the home side in the second round of this year’s championship. The Downs started well and began to dominate as the half went on, strong attacking runs by both Ciaran Nolan and Steven Wynn created ample scoring opportunities for the inside line with both Shane Carroll and Dylan Carroll getting first half goals, to give The Downs a seven point lead at the break. A third goal in the opening exchanges of the second half both The Downs firmly in control. Shandonagh to their credit never gave up an gradually chipped away at our lead but The Downs held on for a 3-10 TO 1-13 win, and will host St. Lomans in the next round.
