Division 1
Our Division 1 side travelled to Garrycastle last Sunday morning, unfortunately we were on the wrong end of the final score 3-12 to 2-09. The first half proved to be competitive with Jack Hogan getting on the end of a good move to find the net mid-way through the half. However, The Downs were somewhat wasteful in the opening half with the assistance of a strong breeze. Half time 2-03 to 1-04. The home side dominated proceedings for much of the second half and opened a comfortable lead to put the game beyond our lads.
Division 3
Our Division 3 side continued their impressive start to this year’s campaign with a convincing 2-16 to 1-08 score line over Kilbeggan Shamrocks, in The Downs last Thursday. Both sides exchanged scores for much of the first half with the game appearing to be a tight affair, with the margin only three points at the interval in favour of The Downs. However, the second half The Downs seemed to up the tempo and began to score freely with some excellent points from Ian Martin, and goals from Shane Carroll and PJ Maguire. The defensive also began to dominate with Conor Gavin, Cian Carty and Eoghan Moore all putting in excellent performances, ensuring that we remain unbeaten.
Division 5
Our Division 5 team got tasted victory against Mullingar Shamrocks in The Downs last Saturday evening. Both teams played an attacking style of football with some excellent moves and scores. Shane Carroll, Donal Coughlan got early goals for The Downs before John Smyth showed he still has his shooting boots adding a third first half goal, leaving The Downs in a strong position at the interval. Shamrocks applied some pressure in the second half and mounted a serious comeback, however an Aidan Duncan Goal in the second ensured The Downs had enough to gain two valuable league points. Full Time 4-10 to 3-12 Team: Trevor Martin, Keith Carroll, Eoghan Moore, Conor Thompson, Cian Carty (capt), Conor Gavin, Philip Doherty, John Smyth, Jack Lynch, Michael Drury, Donal Coughlan, Max Rowan, Niall Folan,Shane Carroll, Aidan Duncan Subs:Liam Faulkner, Jimmy Conroy, Darragh Monaghan, Sean Loughlin, Jack Carroll, Oisin Murphy, Mark Keegan, Cian Quinn, Ian Martin
