Division 1

Last Saturday in The Downs we hosted Miltownpass in the third round of Division 1.The Downs were slow to get going and trailed 1-03 to 0-00 after ten minutes. Luke Loughlin soon added some much needed scores, while we began to get into the game around the middle of the field. Ian Martin got on the end of a good move to finish to the net and it was level 1-04 each at the break. The Downs continued to have the majority of possession in the second half and were unlucky not to add to the goals tally, but ran out winners on a 1-09 to 1-06 score line.

Division 3

On Sunday afternoon we travelled to Miltown to take on the home side. The Downs again started slow and trailed 1-02 to 0-00 after ten minutes. The lads began to gain a foothold and added some much needed scores to keep in touch at the break 1-04 to 0-05. The Downs started the second half in excellent form. Niall Gavin added two points followed by an Ian Martin goal. Dylan Carroll and Niall Folan added two further goals but the home side remained competitive and it ended all square. Full time 3-09 to 2-12.

Minor League

The minor lads were also out last Sunday evening, and they kept their form going with a good win against Athlone. Travelling to Athlone was also going to be a big test for our lads, but they hit the ground running and dominated for much of the opening half leading 2-07 to 0-03 at the break. The lads added two further goals in the second half to ensure victory. Full time 4-11 to 0-09.

A big well done to the St Marys CBS u16 side which won the All Ireland final last Saturday. The Downs were well represented with ten lads on the panel. This was a huge achievement for all involved and will be fondly remembered for years to come. Well done to all.

There is a table quiz this coming Saturday, April 7thin the clubhouse at 8:30pm. This is a fundraiser for the upcoming All Ireland final on April 14th.
