Senior Championship

On Sunday last, in Cusack park, we played Tyrrellspass in the championship semi-final. Our opponents started at a high tempo and raced into an early 0-04 to 0-01 lead after just five minutes. We soon settled into the game and began to get some crucial scores, non-more crucial than a goal two Minutes from half time courtesy of Luke Folan, to leave us trailing 0-10 to 1-05 at the break. We scored the first point of the second half thanks to a fantastic kick from Luke Loughlin, unfortunately this was as close as we would get as Tyrrellspassbegan to apply real pressure and convert several points. Full time 0-20 to 2-09.

Unfortunately, that result marks and end to competitive football for our senior team in 2017. But both players and mentors can hold their head high in what was considered to be a very entertaining and successful year. Team: K. McGuire, D. Egerton, J. Hogan, T. McCormack, C. Coughlan, S. Raleigh, N. Nolan, A. Loughlin, H. Caulfield, D. Egerton, L. Folan, J. Moran, L. Loughlin, S. Power, C. Murray, subs used: N. Mitchell, P. Murray, M. Kelly, A. Kilmartin, D. Clarke.

Minor Championship

Our minor lads played Athlone last Saturday in the championship semi-final. We played against a strong breeze in the first half, and Athlone made the elements work in their favour scoring two early goals.  Half Time 2-07 to 0-7. The second half continued in a similar fashion to the first with our lads struggling to close the two goal deficient. A Joe Moran goal a few minutes from time but doubt on the result for the closing stages, but Athlone managed to hold on to their lead. Full Time 2-12 to 1-12.

U14 Championship

Our U14 boys played Lilliput Gaels in the curtain raiser to the Minor match in Moate last Saturday. The concession of some early goals put our lads on the back foot from the off and trailed 3-02 to 0-01 after 15 minutes. However, the lads never gave up and continued to play entertaining football with some excellent score. However, it was not our day and Congratulations to Lilliput Gaels on winning the title. A big well done to all our players, mentors and parents on their commitment this year in reaching the final, bigger and better days await this excellent bunch of players.
