The Downs Ladies Football

Intermediate Champions

The Downs Ladies are the 2017 Intermediate Cup Winners on a score of 5-7 to 2-7. Earlier in the season this bunch of girls created a little piece of Club history when they gained promotion form League Division 2 to League Division 1 which is quite an achievement in itself. However, since our very first training session this team had only one goal and that was to win the Intermediate Championship and gain Senior status and in the process qualify for the Leinster Club Championships. This was achieved with victory over a strong Kinnegad team in another hard fought final replay. Our girls got of to a great start with an opening goal within the 1st minute and they never looked back. We were ahead throughout the game with Kinnegad throwing the kitchen sink at us but our defence held firm, as they have throughout the year. We have a strong forward line which have vitally contributed to our wins throughout the season. In this game the spread of scores throughout the forward line was great to see. At time of writing we are due to play the 1st round of our Leinster Club Championship against the Offaly Champions Naomh Ciaran so maybe this great bunch of girls can create further history for themselves and their Club. There is more football left this year with our Minors having qualified for Division 1 semi-final.
