Junior Championship

Our juniors recorded a one point championship win over St.Loman's, last Thursday, in their final group stage fixture played in Lakepoint Park. The game was nip and tuck throughout and our lads, despite playing with the breeze in the opening half could only lead by a point at the break 1-8, 1-7. But they saved the best football for after the break and despite conceding an early goal, worked extremely hard all over the pitch and against the wind to secure the win and at least a play off place to reach the knock out stages. Full Time 2-13 to 2-12. Compliments to the hosts for having the pitch in top notch condition. Team: Ciaran McCormack, Cian Carty, Conor Gavin, Eoghan Moore, Ciarán Nolan (1-1), Trevor McCormack (0-3), Kevin Bell (capt), Philip Martin, John Smyth, Philip Doherty, Ian Martin, Steven Colgan (0-2), Donal Coughlan (0-2), James Conroy (0-1), Shane Carroll (1-4), Niall Murray, Sean Judge, Paul Lynam, Keith Carroll, Steven Cleary, Joe Corroon.

Senior Championship

We played our final group game in this year’s championship, last Sunday evening in Cusack park with Castledaly our opponents. The Downs failed to start the game with any real urgency which reflected on the scoreboard at half time, 1-10 to 0-02. The second half performance was much improved, the introduction of Conor Murray, Andrew Kilmartin and Luke Loughlin gave our forward line and significant lift. However, we left too much to do and never closed the deficient. Full time 1-12 to 0-10. Despite the result, we look forward to the quarter finals in three weeks’ time. Team: K. Maguire, D. Egerton, N. Nolan, S. Raleigh, C. Coughlan, J. Hogan, J. Moran, D. Clarke, A. Loughlin, D. Egerton, L. Folan, H. Caulfield, N. Gavin, N. Mitchell, D. Carroll, C. Murray, A. Kilmartin, L. Loughlin, S. Egerton, C. McCormack.

Intermediate Championship

Our intermediate ladies live to fight another day, after last Saturdays final ended all square after extra time. The girls started the game in good form and opened up a commanding lead at the break 2-06 to 0-07. However, our opponents dug deep in the second period to force extra time, which proved to be a close and tight affair with neither side able to take command of the game. It finished all square 2-09 to 1-12.

U14 Girls

Well done to the u14 girls who had a fantastic win last Sunday over Rochfortbridge on a score line of 6-09 to 3-09 to reach the semi-final.
