Rd 3 Div 2 League The Downs V's CoralstownKinnegad

The Downs had to cede home advantage for this match due to an unfortunate clash with our own underage training but this did not negatively impact on the result which we won 4-10 to 2-12. This was a tough physical encounter with high skill levels on show from both Clubs. The Downs got off to the best of starts, winning possession in midfield and following some swift passing had hit the back of the net and quickly followed this up with a couple of well taken points. Kinnegad are a very experienced outfit with a number of senior intercounty players in their ranks and they reorganised and got themselves back in the game. Throughout this match there was very little between both teams with no quarter being asked or given. Our girls stayed going to the end with a late goal securing the points, though I feel that we will have further battles before the year is out! This recent win sees us enter Round 4 unbeaten and again we have a tough assignment away to Moate on saturday evening (venue to be confirmed asap). The Downs Squad on the day was Sarah Maguire, Meadbh Scally, Roisin Scally, Ciara Wynne, Lauren Collins, Karen Lynam, Aoife Mullen, Aisling Egerton, Shauna Conneely, Niamh Staunton, Aoife Rowan, Emma Murtagh, Sheila McGrath, Lucy Power, Leanne Duncan, Niamh Rowan, Britney McNamee, Olivia Glynn, Gillian Ferguson, Niamh Nolan.
