Jersey for Ben

At the recent remembrance nigh for Ben Murray we launched the ‘Jersey for Ben’, which is a joint initiative between Clonkill Hurling Club, Mullingar Rugby Club and The Downs. All profits will go to a charity to be selected by the Murray family. Jerseys can be ordered through our Facebook page for both adult and juvenile players


Underage Training

Training for all underage teams reverts back to its normal slot this week, Friday at 6:30-7:30.


Division 2

On Sunday last we welcomed Milltownpass to the Downs for the third round of the league. Following two victories in the previous rounds it was a disappointing not to add a further two points on this occasion. Division 3

Away to CFCW last Saturday our lads recorded their second win of the campaign. Trailing by 1-02 to 1-05 at the interval The Downs required a strong second half performance to achieve a result and it duly delivered. A strong third quarter seen us open up a five point cushion, before withstanding a late CFCW come back to finish 2-09 to 2-07 A major highlight of the game was the return of Dean Clarke to the playing field after a lengthy injury. Division 5

In what was our third game of the weekend, we travelled to Ballymore. The home side got off to a stronger start before we got some good passages of play to finish the half level ay 1-07 apiece. The second half started in a similar fashion to the first and with five minutes remaining we trailed 1-11 to 1-14. A converted penalty by Shane Carroll followed by points from Barry Conroy and Kevin Bell turn the game with little or no time remaining. We keep our unbeaten run in this division. The Downs Community Alert 

The Downs Community Alert Group, will be holding its annual registration weekend on Saturday morning 9th April in The Downs GAA club.  Registration will run from 10 am to 1pm.The annual subscription per household is just €10 and this covers the activities of the community alert group including the cost of the text alert service, affiliation to national bodies, insurance etc.Spread the word among the neighbourhood – The Downs Community Alert Group covers the townlands of Greatdown, Wooddown, Castledown, Newdown and Knockmant.


Community Clean-Up Morning Easter Saturday

So put a reminder in your phone or calendar for Saturday 8th April and come along to register.  Another date for the diary is a planned litter picking morning on Easter Saturday morning.  This is subject to getting sufficient volunteers on the day.  Assembly is at The Downs GAA club on Easter Saturday morning at 10am.  A text message will be sent to all community alert subscribers – please respond to volunteer your services for a couple of hours on Saturday 15th April.


The Downs Ladies Football


Clothes Collection 

The Ladies football are collecting bags of clothes as a fundraiser, so you can now de-clutter and help the club raise funds. Bags of clothes can be left with any team coach or committee member. Please ask family, neighbours, friends and co-workers to fill a bag. Clothes can be left in the blue bin beside the scoreboard.


Training

Training continues this Friday night 7:30-9pm for all adult and minor players. U14 girls training every Thursday night 7:30-8:30. New players always welcome.
