Division 2

On Saturday last we travelled to Ballymore to take on the home side in round 2 of the league. After a slow start we found ourselves trailing 1-02 to 0-00, a goal from Kevin Smullen and a spread of fine scores from our forwards ensured a half time lead of 1-09 to 1-04. The second half required a big effort from the lads as Ballymore mounted a comeback, with the game finishing 1-10 to 1-09 maintaining our winning start to the league. Team: K. McGuire, P. Murray, S. Egerton, C. Carty, C. Coughlan, N. Nolan, S. Raleigh, M. Kelly, A. Loughlin, K. Smullen, D. Egerton, D. Conroy, N. Gavin, D. Carroll, I. Martin; subs used: J. Hogan, P. Doherty, N. Murray, S. Carroll E. Moore.

Division 3

On Friday Night we travelled to Moate to take on a strong home side. Our lads were competitive throughout the game and gave a good effort. We trailed by 6 points at the half way stage, a strong start to the second half meant the gap was closed to 2, but unfortunately that was the closest we got and the final score finished 1-16 – 0-13.

Division 5

To complete our busy weekend of league action our division 5 team hosted Rosemount on Sunday Morning. A good standard of football was played with some fine scores from our inside forward line. At the half way stage we found ourselves with a two point lead but Rosemount battled back and with neither side able to pull away the game finished even on a score line of 1-11 to 2-08. Team: C. McCormack, K. Carroll, C. Gavin, B. Flynn, C. Thompson, N. Murray, K. Bell, J. Smyth, P. Martin, D. Conroy, S. Carroll, D. Coughlan, P. Shanley, B. Conroy, D. Carroll.

Scór Sinsear County Final

Well done to all of the Westmeath competitors at the Leinster semi-final on Sunday last; a particular well done to our own figure dancers, on progressing to the Leinster final.

The Downs Ladies Football

Division 2

We got our 2017 league campaign off to a great start with a well-deserved win over Milltown in Molloy Park. The Downs dominated this encounter from the off and were content to keep putting over the points before the goals started to flow. Whilst there was a number of strong individual scoring displays this was very much a solid squad performance with good movement and a hunger for work throughout the team. The Downs panel and scorers on the day was Meadbh Scally, Aoife Rowan, Shauna Conneely, Aisling Egerton, Emma Murtagh, Ciara Wynne, Aoife Mullen, Niamh Nolan 0-4, Sheila McGrath 1-0, Leanne Duncan 3-2, Lucy Power 0-8, Niamh Staunton, Oliva Glynn, Britney McNamee 4-2, Karen Lynam, Roisin Scally 1-0, Niamh Rowan 0-1, Lauren Collins.

Clothes Collection

The Ladies football are collecting bags of clothes as a fundraiser, so you can now de-clutter and help the club raise funds. Bags of clothes can be left with any team coach or committee member. Please ask family, neighbours, friends and co-workers to fill a bag. Clothes can be left in the blue bin beside the scoreboard.

Training

Training continues this Friday night 7:30-9pm for all adult and minor players. U14 girls training every Thursday night 7:30-8:30. New players always welcome.

Well Done

A big well done to Niamh Rowan and her UCD team mates, on winning the Moynihan cup last weekend. UCD defeated IT Blanchardstown on a 1-09 to 0-11 score line.
