 U14 Girls, Championship.

On a wet evening in The Downs, our U14 girls continued their championship campaign with a hard fought victory against a strong Rochfortbridge side. From the outset, both defences were on top and the Downs girls did well to create some scoring opportunities whilst minimising chances for their opponents. Caoimhe Scally, Francesca Walshe and Isabel Hunt  stood out in our defence with great support from our hard working midfielders Katie Moore & Jayne Holton. Scores from Ellie O’Brien and Zara Murtagh meant we led at half time by 2-1 to 1-2. The second half saw a similar pattern, as our defence stood strong, with Kayleigh Reidy having an outstanding game at full back. Our attackers did well to create scoring chances, which were taken well by Louise O’Rourke, Caoimhe Monaghan & Ellie O’Brien. Hard work was key all over the pitch, exemplified by the defensive work of our forward line including Zara Murtagh, Caoimhe Monaghan and especially Laura Robson. In the end, we ran our narrow winners by a score line of 4-4 to 3-3. This keeps the girls unbeaten in the championship, and was a great boost to the efforts of the panel on the evening –well done to all. Our next championship game is on June 14th with some challenge games planned over the next 4 weeks to keep the panel active. Training continues on Sundays at 12.00.

Panel: Francesca Walshe, Aideen Gilbride, Kayleigh Reidy, Katie Murphy, Gemma Faulkner, Caoimhe Scally, Isabel Hunt, Katie Moore, Jayne Holton, Zara Murtagh, Laura Robson, Ellie O’Brien, Katie Cribben,Caoimhe Monaghan, Amy Gilgan, Grace O’Sullivan, Louise O’Rourke, Rosaleen Daly,Rachel Harte, Ella Brennan, Amy Mulreid, Ava Guilfoyle, Rachel Harte, Kaylin Murray,.
